Brook waits by the food hole for a treat
Cyndie just sent me some pictures of her visit to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA. The aquarium has a special Otter Encounter where you can see what it takes to care for their sea otters and you even get to feed them!

Otter Tongue July 25. 2008
Emily caught this cute otter sticking out his tongue at the Tennessee Aquarium.
Emily writes: My family and I recently went to the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga and were lucky enough to see the river otters while they were awake--this one is sticking out its tongue! I thought you might like the photo even though it's a little blurry (it's hard to take pictures of playful otters).

Video: Sneaky Otter July 21. 2008
Colleen just sent me this cute slo-mo video of a very sneaky otter!
Colleen writes: I thought you might want to check out this video my boyfriend made at the Frankfurt zoo, playing around with his new high-speed camera. We spent a lot of time at the otter enclosure, where there was quite the tussle over a pair of sunglasses someone had dropped into their habitat. Get a load of these ridiculous guys, especially the left one’s sneaky ways.
Paper Doll Otters July 18. 2008
Here's a fun craft for the young kids (and grandkids), Paper Doll Otters! Dress up Charles and Brook for the Toymaker's Ball, bedtime or for travel. For older kids (or crafty adults), you can make the more advanced Papercraft Otters. Thanks to Kat for sending me this link.
Video: Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care July 17. 2008
Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care is the only rehab center in the state of California that has special tanks for just for river otters! It's where the otters found in Petaluma were taken.
From LTWC: This little River Otter was found under a tree with no mom in sight near Willitts, California, and arrived at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care in early June. She spent the summer growing up at LTWC, which has the only River Otter rehab cage in the state of California, enjoying catfish nuggets, minnows, crawdads, and even an occasional treat of Rainbow Trout, compliments of Joby Cefalu, Mile High Fishing Charters.

Video: Otters in a Bank Lobby? July 15. 2008
Two river otters named Oscar and Andy are currently living the lobby of Union Federal Savings & Loan Association in Kewanee, Illinois. I wish my bank had otters! Thanks to Carma for sending me this story.
From Roadside America: They live in a concrete, water-filled pit in the center of the Union Federal Savings and Loan, right in the heart of downtown. Oscar and Andy, two male Nearctic American river otters, have been splashing in this climate-controlled play pool since 1991. They were brought here by the bank president, who thought that live otters -- an endangered species in Illinois -- would soften the button-down image of his bank. They were named by Kewanee school children.
Seattle Otters July 14. 2008
Lorna just sent me these great pictures taken at the Seattle Aquarium.
Lorna writes: I went to the seattle aquarium last week and got these snaps of their sea and river otters. the sea otters were so fast in the water it was hard to get shots that weren't blurry! the river otter, on the other hand, was sacked out on his back for a nap, so he was easy to get!
