If you're in the UK, you must absolutely get to the Blackpool Zoo and check out their new Asian Small-Clawed Otters! These great pictures were taken by Lolls Marshall and make me want to get a new digital SLR camera.

Otters at the New Forest Wildlife Park August 16. 2010
Lutra just sent in a great picture of the Asian Short-Clawed Otters at the New Forest Wildlife Park in the UK. You may remember it better as the New Forest Otter, Owl and Wildlife Centre before it went through a recent name change. If you're in the UK, you should definitely visit the otters there.
From The New Forest Wildlife Park: A wander in our Park will reveal a wonderful range of wildlife - in natural surroundings. Here we have 3 species Eurasian (indigenous to Uk) Asian Short Claw and North American
River otter; European wolf, 12 species of owls, badgers, foxes and deer. Other mammals to be seen are polecats, mink, pine martens and highly endangered Scottish wildcat, lynx, wallaby and wild boar.
You can stroll through the animal house...to enjoy watching otters swimming underwater, ferrets chasing their tails, harvest mice home-making on top of corn stalks...or the night barn for snoring badgers and red foxes.
California Sea Otter Population in Decline August 14. 2010
I'm pretty sad about the news that California's otter population is down. Hopefully we'll have a surge of new pups (and adorable videos) in the next year. If you live in California be sure to donate money at tax time and don't flush kitty litter which can contain parasites and bacteria that's potentially deadly to otters.

When the Monterey Bay Aquarium had their "Wild About Otters" exhibit, I really fell in love with Asian Otters. The lucky people at the Point Defiance Zoo were able to see some new baby otters earlier this year.

One of the first pictures that first made me love otters was a little baby otter on its mother's belly. This picture was taken in Morro Bay which is one of the few places in the world where there are numerous sea otters. (source - San Luis Obispo Tribune)
