Pictures of Clover the Sea Otter April 16. 2011
Here are some great pictures of Clover the sea otter at SeaWorld San Diego. I can't wait to go visit Clover on my next trip to San Diego. If you've never visited SeaWorld, you must go! You can see dolphins close up and the shows are amazing. In fact, the next time I go, I'm going to do the dolphin interaction where you get to be in the water with dolphins!
Rare White Otter and Pup March 31. 2011
So fuzzy, so cute!
Sea otter moms are the best mothers ever. They float around with their tiny pups on their belly and only leave them for short times while they find food. In this incredibly cute picture, a rare white otter cares for her pup at Moss Landing, California. Thanks to Cyndie for sending me this article.
From The Daily Mail: Retired marine biology teacher Brian Maxwell, 69, captured the Intimate moments in and estuary in Moss Landing, California.
He said: 'It was just amazing that the son was content to just fall asleep anywhere.
'They were really sweet and after a while the mother got hungry and rolled her son into the water so she could dive for clams.'
Everyone loves a nap after eating.
Paula Deen on an Otter? March 5. 2011
I just came across the weirdest site ever, "Paula Deen Riding Things". The whole site is devoted to Photoshopped pictures of the famous author and chef riding different objects.
Santa Barbara Otters Learn To Swim February 4. 2011
Believe it or not, otters aren't born swimming. It took these otters from the Santa Barbara Zoo months to get ready for their first swim late January.
From Santa Barbara Independent: as soon as one dove into the pool, the others followed. Frolicking in the water, the pups darted out to take rest breaks composed of hurriedly circling their whole exhibit. Their energy was both endearing and exhausting as they flew around, water and wind together encouraging their fur to clump into tiny spikes.
No doubt, these treasured new otters — devoid of fear, swimming skills honed — have a new oasis.
Here are the otters as pups. Isn't this the picture we all wanted to see?
Ollie The Otter January 4. 2011
I can't wait until the Aquarium of the Pacific's newest otter, Ollie, makes her public debut. Ollie has been under the watchful eye of Hugh, one of the aquarium's finest otter experts.
Ollie even got her own stocking this year! I wonder if it was full of seafood?
Otter Cubs At The British Wildlife Centre November 9. 2010
Our favorite photographer, Andy Critchfield just sent in some awesome shots of some baby otters at the British Wildlife Centre. I love the picture above where the otter looks like he's sneaking up on Andy.
Remy The Otter At the Wild Center October 16. 2010
If I won the lottery, I'd take a year just traveling to every aquarium and zoo in the world to see all the otter exhibits, including one I just found out about, The Wild Center. At the Wild Center you can visit Remy (pictured above) who greets visitors with a friendly wave. Thanks to Leah at the Wild Center for this great picture.
Otter Pups At The Blackpool Zoo August 24. 2010
If you're in the UK, you must absolutely get to the Blackpool Zoo and check out their new Asian Small-Clawed Otters! These great pictures were taken by Lolls Marshall and make me want to get a new digital SLR camera.
Otters at the New Forest Wildlife Park August 16. 2010
Lutra just sent in a great picture of the Asian Short-Clawed Otters at the New Forest Wildlife Park in the UK. You may remember it better as the New Forest Otter, Owl and Wildlife Centre before it went through a recent name change. If you're in the UK, you should definitely visit the otters there.
From The New Forest Wildlife Park: A wander in our Park will reveal a wonderful range of wildlife - in natural surroundings. Here we have 3 species Eurasian (indigenous to Uk) Asian Short Claw and North American
River otter; European wolf, 12 species of owls, badgers, foxes and deer. Other mammals to be seen are polecats, mink, pine martens and highly endangered Scottish wildcat, lynx, wallaby and wild boar.
You can stroll through the animal house...to enjoy watching otters swimming underwater, ferrets chasing their tails, harvest mice home-making on top of corn stalks...or the night barn for snoring badgers and red foxes.
